Classroom Decorum
- Students shall maintain a neat, clean and orderly appearance. Students should remember when adhering to a dress and grooming standard that they are primarily identified by others as law enforcement officers.
- Shirts or other clothing containing suggestive or obscene pictures or words shall not be worn at a SILEC training program.
- Hats or caps shall not be worn in the classroom.
- Halters or tank tops are prohibited at SILEC training programs.
- Torn or frayed jeans, dirty or unkempt clothes, cutoff shorts, short shorts, sloppy or otherwise unprofessional looking shorts are never permitted at a SILEC training program.
- See through or sexually suggestive clothing is never appropriate.
- Business casual attire is recommended to be worn by students attending SILEC classes (exceptions to this rule include – range, defensive tactics, or courses containing practical exercises such as crime scene, accident recon-struction, etc.)
- Business Casual attire is generally described as follows:

- Polo shirt with dress slacks
- Dress cotton jersey outfits
- Dress shirt with collar, tie, and dress slacks
- Dress blouse with dress pants
- Dress sweaters worn over collar shirt or blouse
- Dress culottes
- Blazer or sport coat with dress pants/dress shirt with tie
- Business shirt
- Dress
- Students attending SILEC training are expected to wear clothing appropriate for the class they are attending.
- Students not in uniform or wearing a visible police ID should have their weapons concealed.
- Students should not wear flip-flop footwear.
- Other classroom conduct issues:
- Cell phones must be muted or put on vibrate
- Talking on the telephone during classroom training is prohibited
- Reading newspaper, magazine, or books during class are prohibited.
SILEC Staff or instructors may request any student not meeting the above standards to leave the training program. SILEC Staff will notify the students’ parent agency head if a student is asked to leave training for a violation of this policy.
