This 8-hour course is designed to cover the mandates for high-risk traffic stops & de-escalation techniques, with hands-on, scenario-based training.

This 8-hour course is designed to cover the mandates for high-risk traffic stops & de-escalation techniques, with hands-on, scenario-based training.
At the end of this unit the trainee will be able to:
- Review and discuss agency policy and the following ILCS:
- Peace Officer’s Use of Force in Making Arrest; 720 ILCS 5/7-5
- Review and discuss the following 4th Amendment cases:
- Arizona v Grant
- Terry v Ohio
- Kansas v Glover
- Pennsylvania v Mimms, 434 U.S. 106 (1977)
- Maryland v Wilson, 519 U.S. 408 (1997)
- Identify the fundamental concepts and principles of initiating a stop.
- Demonstrate tactics for squad car placement and use of lighting for optimal cover.
- Demonstrate tactics for safely approaching the violator vehicle and returning to squad car.
- Identify and demonstrate contact and cover options.
- Demonstrate best practices for de-escalating emotional and non-compliant occupants.
- Demonstrate tactics for High-Risk Traffic Stops in scenario/role play, proper de-escalation, officer safety techniques for conducting High-Risk Traffic Stops.
