The purpose of this course is to provide law enforcement officers with the knowledge, skills, and legal understanding required to fulfill their Duty to Intervene in situations where misconduct or excessive force is occurring. This training emphasizes the importance of ethical behavior, adherence to legal standards, and maintaining public trust by intervening when necessary to prevent harm and uphold constitutional rights.
This 8-hour training course explores the legal, ethical, and practical aspects of the Duty to Intervene for law enforcement officers. It covers Illinois statutes, federal court rulings, and real-life case studies where officers failed to intervene. Through lecture, discussion, video analysis, and scenario-based training, participants will learn intervention strategies, review legal precedents, and practice applying these skills in high-pressure situations.
